Tidio vs Zendesk: which fits a Shopify support team?

Tidio vs Zendesk compared on pricing model, AI costs, channels and Shopify order actions, using each vendor's prices as of October 2026.

Tidio is the lighter choice and Zendesk is the heavier one. Tidio is a live chat and chatbot tool with a free plan, quick to install on Shopify. Zendesk is an enterprise helpdesk with mature ticketing, SLAs and reporting, priced per agent. A small store answering chat and a few emails will usually be happier with Tidio. A larger or multi-brand team that needs SLAs and reporting will usually need Zendesk. Prices and features below were checked in October 2026 and can change, so confirm them on each vendor's site.

Tidio vs Zendesk at a glance

  • Best for: Tidio suits small stores that want free or low-cost live chat with an AI chatbot. Zendesk suits larger or multi-brand teams that need enterprise workflows.
  • Pricing model: Tidio charges by conversation volume, with AI and Flows usage metered separately. Zendesk charges per agent.
  • Starting price: Tidio has a free plan for 50 conversations a month, and paid plans start at $29 a month. Zendesk Suite Team is $55 per agent a month billed annually, or $69 billed monthly.
  • Shopify: Tidio agents can cancel unfulfilled orders and refund from the chat panel. Zendesk works with Shopify through marketplace apps.
  • Channels: Tidio covers live chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. Zendesk covers email, chat, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, with voice and SMS as add-ons.

How each one is priced

The two tools charge for different things, which is why a simple price comparison misleads.

Tidio's free plan covers 50 conversations a month. Starter is $29 a month, or $24.17 a month billed annually. Growth starts at $49.17 and Plus at $300. The Lyro AI add-on starts at $32.50 a month for 50 AI conversations. Conversations, Lyro and Flows are metered separately, so a busy month can move three numbers, not one. Plans below Plus are capped at 10 seats.

Zendesk Suite Team is $55 per agent a month billed annually ($69 billed monthly). Suite Professional is $115 ($149 monthly). Each agent includes 5 or 10 automated resolutions a month, and after that each one costs $1.50 to $2.00. Copilot is $50 per agent a month. Voice and SMS are add-ons.

In practice: Tidio's bill follows your conversation and AI volume, and Zendesk's follows your headcount. A three-person team on Zendesk Suite Team pays for three agents before any AI resolution. A three-person team on Tidio pays for the plan tier its conversation volume needs.

What each does with Shopify orders

Most Shopify questions are "where is my order", "cancel it" and "change my address". The question to ask each vendor is who finishes the job.

With Tidio, agents can cancel unfulfilled orders and issue refunds from the chat panel, and the Lyro AI looks up order status. With Zendesk, order data and actions come through marketplace apps, so what an agent can do depends on the app you install. In both cases the AI mostly answers or drafts, and a person carries out the change.

Where each one is stronger

Tidio

  • A permanently free plan.
  • Fast to set up on a Shopify store.
  • Live chat and chatbot in one place for a small team.

Zendesk

  • Mature ticketing, SLAs and reporting.
  • A large marketplace of integrations.
  • Built for bigger and multi-brand teams.

Where each one costs you

Tidio's cost is metering: conversations, Lyro and Flows each have their own meter, and the seat cap below Plus can matter if your team grows. Zendesk's cost is stacking: a per-agent price, plus resolution fees past the allowance, plus channel add-ons, and it is heavier to set up than an ecommerce-specific tool.

How to choose between them

  • Count the people who answer customers. If it is one to three, per-agent pricing is cheap. If it will be fifteen, price it out before you commit.
  • Count conversations and AI use per month. If volume is low, Tidio's free or Starter plan may be enough.
  • List the features you cannot do without. If it is SLAs or detailed reporting, that points to Zendesk. If it is a chat widget on a Shopify store by tomorrow, that points to Tidio.
  • Ask what the AI completes on its own, and what it only drafts or hands off.

A third option if the AI should do the work

If most of your volume is order changes, you may want a different shape of tool. Savena is a unified inbox with an AI agent that works on the Shopify order itself. For the actions you switch on, it looks up orders and tracking, cancels orders, edits the shipping address before the order ships, and adds, removes or swaps items. It can also issue discount codes within caps you set, and open a return request that a person approves. Each change is gated: the customer gets a one-time code by email, sent to the address on the order, and then confirms explicitly.

It has limits. Refunds on Shopify orders are handed to a person, not issued by the AI. After an order has shipped, an address change goes to a person too. There is no SMS and no phone or voice support, no SLA feature, and no importer for past tickets from another helpdesk. Its integrations are Shopify, Stripe, HubSpot and a custom HTTP API.

The platform fee is $99 a month and includes 3 team members. Extra members are $25 a month each. Conversations are unlimited, and the AI charges $0.99 for each conversation it resolves on its own. Handoffs to a person cost nothing. Annual billing is $87 a month and $22 per extra member, and there is a 21-day free trial. Shopify-billed stores are billed monthly only.

Bottom line

Choose Tidio if you are a small store that wants chat running quickly and cheaply. Choose Zendesk if you need enterprise ticketing, SLAs and reporting and have the team to run it. If neither fits because your tickets are mostly order changes, test a tool where the AI makes the change, and compare what your own last month of conversations would have cost on each.
