WhatsApp Business pricing, explained for support teams

How WhatsApp Business pricing actually works, what Meta charges everyone, and what to look for when comparing platforms.

WhatsApp Business pricing is one of the most confusing parts of evaluating a customer support platform. There are two layers of cost — Meta's pass-through fees and the platform's own pricing — and most vendors blur the line. Here is what you actually need to know.

Meta charges per conversation, with everyone

Meta charges per-conversation fees for WhatsApp Business. The fee depends on the conversation category — service, marketing, utility, or authentication — and the recipient's country. These fees apply with every WhatsApp Business provider. There is no provider that "includes" WhatsApp without you paying Meta.

What platforms add on top

Some customer support platforms charge an additional platform fee on top of Meta's fees — either as a per-conversation markup or as a paid WhatsApp add-on bundle. Others, like Savena, do not: you pay Meta's pass-through fees and that is it. The WhatsApp channel itself is part of the standard subscription.

How to compare platforms honestly

When comparing WhatsApp pricing across platforms, ask three questions:

  • Is there an additional platform fee for WhatsApp on top of Meta's fees? Some platforms charge $99/mo or more as a "WhatsApp add-on."
  • Is the WhatsApp Business API included in the base subscription, or is it a separate plan?
  • Are AI responses on WhatsApp counted toward AI resolution fees? Per-resolution pricing applies on WhatsApp too.

A vendor that says "WhatsApp included" without distinguishing between Meta's fees and their own platform fees is being deliberately vague. Push for clarity.

Realistic budgeting

For most SMB teams, Meta's pass-through WhatsApp fees come out to a few cents to a few tens of cents per conversation, depending on country and category. At 1,000 monthly WhatsApp conversations, expect a Meta bill in the range of $50–$300 on top of your platform subscription. That is the floor, regardless of which platform you choose.

Bottom line

Meta charges everyone. Some platforms charge extra on top. Compare platforms by what they add to Meta's fees, not by who claims to "include WhatsApp" — that phrase has no consistent meaning across vendors.
